Q: Is the fireplace safe to use?

A: Yes, it has been tested to Underwriters Laboratories, UL 127 Standard for safety. The fireplace is listed by PFS testing agency, ICC, (International Code Council) and quality control standards are used in manufacturing.(ESR -2401)

 

 Q: Can I install the fireplace on a wood floor?

A : Yes:  please use the required metal base under unit sold by MFI or use  CMU block. Air space clearances range from 6″ to 8″ depending on the model.

 

Q: Do I have to install the outside air kit on the fireplace?

A: The local building code will tell you if this is required in your area. The fireplace will work without the outside air kit, although, it is more efficient to use outside air for combustion.

 

Q: Do I need firebrick inside the firebox?

A: Yes: MFI can supply firebrick panels for easy installation or a mason can lay firebrick inside the firebox.

 

Q: What type of chimney do I use on this fireplace?

A: The fireplace has been tested with both a masonry chimney, manufactured by MFI, or Class A listed metal chimney. The different models can use different diameter metal chimney that will fit almost all installation needs. When installed, the maximum overall height of the Mason-Lite fireplace is 40 feet. The minimum installation height is 14 feet, given that the chimney is straight. If the chimney is not straight, the minimum installation height is 17 feet.

 

Q: Do I need a log holder or grate in the fireplace?

A: Yes, you should use a grate to hold the wood in the firebox for better combustion and safety.   

 

Q: Can I install a mantel or decorative stone or marble on the front of the fireplace?

A: Yes. Just follow the installation instructions for safe installations.

 

Q: Can I install decorative gas logs in this wood-burning fireplace?

A: Yes. Follow the manufacturers instructions for safe installation and operation.

 

Q: Can I install a log lighter in the fireplace?

A: Yes. Follow the manufacturers instructions for safe installation and operation.

 

Q: Can I install a glass door on the fireplace?

A: Yes, Follow the manufacturers instructions and always have doors in the fully open position when using the fireplace.

 

Q: Can I install fireplace on upper levels floors of a building.

A: Yes with the lightweight design of MFI fireplaces will work on most applications. You must have a structural engineer determine the load limit of the flooring.

 

Q: Can I install a see-thru wood-burning fireplace?

A:  Yes. The MFPST43 You will need to install a chimney exhaust type fan in most installations.

 

Q: Can I install this fireplace outside?

A: Yes. It is listed for BOTH indoors and outdoors. 

 

Q: What are the minimum and maximum fireplace heights for the Mason-Lite fireplace?

A: When installed, the maximum overall height of the Mason-Lite fireplace is 40 feet. The minimum installation height is 14 feet, given that the chimney is straight. If the chimney is not straight, the measurement is 17 feet.

Q: Can I install this fireplace outside

A: Yes. It is listed for BOTH indoors and out doors. Unit must be in an outdoor living space that has shelter from direct weather. 

 

Q: Is this fireplace safe?

A: Yes. It has been tested to the ANSI Z21.50 for gas fireplace and is listed by PFS testing laboratories. Of course you must follow the operating instructions.

 

 Q: Can I install the fireplace on a wood floor?

A : Yes

 

Q: Can I burn wood in this gas fireplace?

A: NO!

 

Q: What type of chimney do I use on this fireplace?

A: The fireplace has been tested with B- Vent chimney. Class A chimney can also be used with this fireplace. Follow the instructions for safe installations.

 

Q: Can I install a glass door on the fireplace?

A: Yes, Follow the manufacturers instructions and always have doors in the fully open position when using the fireplace.

A: This depends on the local building codes. The fireplace is safe but you have to follow the building codes.

 Q: Is this fireplace safe?

A: Yes.  It has been tested to the ANSI Standard for vent free fireplaces.

You must follow the vent free gas log manufacturers instructions for safe operation.

 

 Q: Can I install the fireplace on a wood floor?

Q: Can I burn wood in this Vent Free Gas fireplace?

A: NO!

 

Q: Can I install decorative gas logs in this Vent Free Gas burning fireplace?

A: No! Vent Free Gas logs are needed for safe installation and operation.

 

Q: Can I install a log lighter in the fireplace?

A: No!

 

Q: What type of chimney do I use on this fireplace?

A: The fireplace does not use a chimney.

 

Q. Can I install this unit anywhere in the country?

A. No. You need to check with the building codes in your area to see if Vent Free Gas fireplaces are allowed.

 

Q: Can I install this gas fireplace in a bedroom?

A: This depends on the local building codes. Most areas and manufacturers do not allow vent free products to be installed in bedrooms.

Q: Can your Mason-Lite fireplace systems be installed on second stories?

A: Yes, the Mason-Lite fireplace has been developed specifically for multi-level applications. Structural engineering is needed in these cases.

 

Q: What are the advantages to using the Mason-Lite fireplace system?

A: The advantages of the Mason-Lite fireplace system are its lightweight, ease of installation, quality construction and lack of inherent problems commonly found in traditional metal firebox systems.  Mason-Lite is manufactured in the United States.

Q: Do I need to have a mason install my unit?

A: Any Mason-Lite fireplace installed in your home, should be installed by a technician trained in the procedures of installing a Mason-Lite fireplace.

 

Q: How can I finish the fireplace?

A: The Mason-Lite fireplace façade can be finished with any of the following noncombustible products, typically at a thickness of 1¼”: brick, marble, tile or stone. The exterior may be finished with the same noncombustible products, including wood siding as long as proper clearances are adhered to according to the installation instructions.

 

Q: What is the cleaning process for a Mason-Lite fireplace system?

A: The cleaning process involves an inspection every six months with cleaning once per year.
